Sharon Lee “Shanno” Porter went to be with her Lord and Savior on August 5, 2024 after failing health from several strokes. She was born on January 14, 1950 and was the oldest child of Frank and Roberta Porter. She grew up in Interlaken, New York and graduated from Interlaken Central School. Most of her summers were spent at Muncy Terraces, a Bible Conference in Pennsylvania.
She was a proud graduate of Houghton College and earned her Master’s in Library Science from SUNY Geneseo. She worked as the librarian at Emily Howland Elementary School in Aurora, NY until she retired. While there, she was involved with Odyssey of the Mind and often traveled to judge competitions.
Sharon loved to travel and take pictures. She would visit family and friends, and especially loved her trips to Maine.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Mary (the late Mark) Cooley. She is survived by her siblings: Judy (the late Richard) Tudi, Joyce (Gary) Linville, Terry (Robert) Hobbs, Frank (Mary Lou) Porter, Bruce (Melanie) Porter, and two younger half sisters, Tricia (Joseph) Houseworth and Jenny (Bill) Morlang. Her many nieces and nephews adored her. She was an involved aunt and very proud of her family and their accomplishments.
She personally kept Hallmark in business, sending hundreds of cards a year. She often gave away children’s books at school and to her family and friends.
She loved all things purple and ice cream. She will be missed by all who knew her. A Celebration of Life service will be at 11:00am on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at First Baptist Church in Interlaken. Burial will be private.
