Wesley Walter Henninger, age 84, of Ovid, formerly of Lodi, passed away at home surrounded by family on Saturday, January 20, 2018.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on Friday, January 26, 2018 at Covert Funeral Home in Ovid. A graveside service with military honors will be held privately at Maple Grove Cemetery in Waterloo in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation to the Ovid VFW Post #6200, Ovid American Legion Post #463 or the Beverly Animal Shelter, in Wes❜ memory.
Wes was born in Endicott on September 17, 1933 a son of the late John and Mildred (Brown) Henninger. After graduation from Romulus High School, he proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. The first half of his working career was that of an over the road truck driver, working for both local and national companies. Later, a painter by trade, Wes worked for the painters Union Local #178 of Ithaca, and spent most of his career on the Cornell campus. He was a member of various clubs and organizations in Waterloo, to include the Jaycees, Moose Club, Lions Club; the Interlaken Sportsmen❜s Club, and various VFW and American Legions throughout the Finger Lakes. He served as Lodi Town Councilman from 1990-1992 and served as Mayor of Lodi from 1993-2003. Wes❜ passion in life was the restoration of Sessler❜s Buick Woody Wagon and he enjoyed meeting friends at the Ovid Fire Department and McDonald❜s for coffee.
Wes is survived by his wife of 27 years, Fern Henninger; eight children, Debra (Richard) Kettlecamp, Darlene (Steve) Bielecki, Garry (Donna) Henninger, Julie (John) Cook, Kelly Bailey, Cassandra Welch, Steven Henninger, and Nicole Ignaszak; 18 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren., Wes was preceded in death by his wife Mabel in 1974 and by his second wife, Ellen in 1986, and by his brothers, Albert, John, David and Marty.
