William J. Cool

William J. ‶Bill″ Cool, age 85, of 4692 Cool❜s Drive, passed away at his home on Sunday, January 6, 2019.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00pm on Wednesday, January 9th at Covert Funeral Home, 7199 South Main Street in Ovid. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am on Thursday, January 10th at Holy Cross Catholic Church by Fr. Bernard Maloney, OFMCap. Prayers of committal will be held at Lake View Cemetery in Interlaken. Bill was born in Geneva on December 18, 1933, a son of the late Charles E. and Daisy (Desmond) Cool. Shortly after his high school graduation, Bill was paralyzed in a diving accident at Seneca Lake, and remained in the hospital for two years. His disability never prevented him from accomplishing all that he set out to do. Bill worked for the Seneca County Soil & Water Conservation Board, retiring as the manager after 30 years of service. He was then appointed as the Varick Town Justice, later served as Varick Town Councilman, and acted as an administrator and advisor for the Water District in Willard. He took great pride in maintaining his lake home and yard, and had been an avid hunter and outdoorsman.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Ada; his step son, Thomas H. Costello of North Carolina; granddaughters, Emma (Jay) VanCurran and Katherine Costello, great grandsons, Nathaniel and Nicholas; his nephews, Charles (Patti) Cool, Lee (Kyle) Cool and Thomas Cool; several cousins, nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by brothers, Bob, Bud and Earl Cool, and a nephew, James Cool.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Lifetime Care nurses, Kristina, Sue and Shannon and home health aide, Shirley for their compassionate and loving care of Bill during his cancer illness.
