Alfred "Walt" Prouty

Alfred “Walt” Prouty, age 75, passed away at the Homestead in Penn Yan on Friday, June 9, 2023 with his loving family by his side.

A Celebration of Life will be held on June 24, 2023 from 12:00pm to 3:00 pm at the Lodi Fire House 8557 NY-414, Lodi, NY 14860. Burial was held privately at Fairview Cemetery of Sheldrake.

Born on February 26, 1948 in Ithaca, the son of the late Alfred W. and Geraldine (nee Turo) Prouty. A proud local business owner Walt and Barb operated Prouty Trucking for 17 years and transitioned to Prouty Farm Supply for an 18 year run ending with the sale in 2015. A lifetime member of South Seneca Sportsmen Club he also enjoyed time with Hector Grazing and the “Liars Club” of the Ovid Fire Department. The former Town Supervisor in Ovid for 10 years, Walt dearly loved his black angus cows.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Barbara Prouty; their son, Donald (Amber) Prouty; his grandchildren, Haylee and Daiker Prouty; his siblings, Pat Casler, Sue (Roger) Klossner and Bill (Rhonda) Prouty and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother-in-law, George Casler.
