Raymond L. Austin, age 82, formerly of West Seneca Street, died at the NYS Veterans Home in Oxford on Saturday, July 8, 2023.
Ray was born in Seneca Falls on November 16, 1940, a son of the late Howard and Marjorie (nee Fish) Austin. He served his country in the Air Force from 1963-1967 as a member of the Military Police and as a Sentry Dog Handler with his dog Lido. Upon his return to Ovid, he graduated from Willard School of Nursing and re-enlisted in the Air Force as a 2nd Lieutenant. He was honorably discharged in 1972. He had a passion for birdwatching, coin collecting, painting, animals, and his pipe collection. He was an avid NASCAR fan. He genuinely enjoyed his family and having his grandchildren around him.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Susann; his daughters, Michelle (Bret) Colburn of Endicott, Kerri Jendrasiak of Elmira; grandchildren; Kyra and Sophie Colburn of Endicott, Cheli Austin of Geneva, and Zachary Jendrasiak of Buffalo and a great granddaughter, Kylie Hadley; his sister, Bonnie (Jim) Sears of Florida and a sister-in-law, MaryAnn Dougherty of Irondequoit. Ray was preceded in death by his brother, Nelson.
A ceremony with military honors will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, July 21, 2023 at NYS Veterans Cemetery-Finger Lakes in Romulus. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation in Ray’s memory to the Disabled American Veterans - www.dav.org
